i was trying to drum up some interest (on Sunday 5th August) for a club tournament for KoW.
1750 points seems to be the recommended army point cost in the rules.
If set for Sunday the 4th of November, this should give people a chance to paint (or borrow ? ) an army. 3 months !
You do not need to field Mantic miniatures (it says so in the rules ), you can use WHFB / Confrontation / LotR / D&D miniatures / Historical armies...
Whatever you like as long as they are painted.
The rules can be downloaded here. http://www.manticgames.com/Hobby/Gaming.html
And all the army lists will follow shortly.
Myself, Banksi, Ross, Philson and Kieran have expressed an interest, 8 entries would be preferrable.
Anyone else interested ?

I have made a Excel worksheet for all of the armies in Kings of War.
Just put in the quantity and the total gets worked out!!
To simplify and reduce the size of file highlight the unwanted rows and right click and select hide.
This should get the army list into one page.

The Worksheet is great RMcN,
How many points would we use in a tournament?
Another point is , do we use 15mm or 25/28mm?
Personally I'd like to use 15mm's, mainly due to the fully painted armies that sit about not getting used

I thought you had sold your 15mm Undaed army ???
The only people with 15mm fantasy armies are you, me, Ross and Tom AFAIK ???
And mine are small HotT / DBF armies. Added (31-Aug-2012, 12:13 PM) --------------------------------------------- Of all the fantasy players at the club i can think of........................
The only players with 15mm and 28mm armies are Banksi, Tom and Ross.
Philson prolly wont have his army painted in time. Mark will also need to borrow an army, whether 15mm or 28mm.
Gerry, Kieran, Rory, Walter and me have only 28mm fantasy armies. So we would all need to borrow 15mm armies.
(This does not take into account the clubs other players (wallethammer), though i believe very little is painted. )

tbh Z i was thinking of ordering some of the Kallistra dwarves (and maybe some high elves) so that i could do this in 15mm. On top of that Gerry has a rather large 15mm roman army so if we did do the tournament in 15mm and i didnt have my dwarves yet i'd ask to borow some of them to use as kingdoms of men. Really when you look at it the only people who will have to completely borrow an army are you, Mark, Walts and Philson because Ross has all his hordes stuff, rory could probably borrow some of that (if he asked nicely:-P), Gerry has his romans and I could see about borrowing some romans or i should have my dwarves by then.

As I said, it's a personal choice for me, the 15mm game the other Sunday looked the part, smaller play area and nicely painted figures.
I can play undead on 15mm and 28mm (using Wolven)
28mm definitely does look more impressive.

The 28mm looks good. But even on a 6'x4' not much chance of manouvering around the flanks.
On the 15mm 2'x4' still had significant space. Moving in cm the humans seemed to race across the table top. We would only need 1 table per pair rather than 2 tables!! This might be the concern with so many at the club at the moment.
In 15mm I have a small quantity of Hordes of Things size Orc, Dwarf, and Centaur. A small size DBA Welsh, and Anglo Dane. A larger DBM size Norman, and Viking. I have an unpainted Mongol DBM.
I can supplement my Orcs and Dwarves to get a KoW size army (Vikings for Dwarves!!). The question is what would Mark, Walter and Philson want to use? Could we supply it in 15mm or 28mm?

I've got to agree with Banksi that the game on Sunday looked really good.
In my honest opinion if you're just going to try and get one or two games done that you've arranged the week before then 28mm is the way to go but if you're going to do tournament play I think 15mm would probably be best because not only does it take up a lot less space(meaning more games can be run at once) it also save a lot of time on set up and packing away.

on Kallistra it says that they're big 10/12mm
Ross was using the dwarves a couple of weeks ago in his game against Mark and they definitely looked the part in my opinion

No probs ....i had some Kallistra human barbarians, and they were far to small compared to my other 15mm humans.

the other reason i was looking at the Kallistra stuff is that you can make up atleast 1500 points for KoW for about £30-£35
its just a case of only putting one strip of figures on each base instead of 2, it means that you end up having to get extra bases but its still a pretty good deal especially when you notice that for every 5 you buy you get the 6th one free

Can everyone interested in joining in the tournament please state their preference for either 15mm or 28mm. I guess we will go with the majority.
(So we can work out how many players ? / what scale ? / which armies ?)
Thanks.
I will start.
I would prefer 28mm ( cos its what i have. )

I would prefer to do 15mm because it saves on set up time, gaming space and the figs are easier to transport(along with an excuse to get some stuff from Kallistra )

I'm not bothered whether 15's or 28's, as I have an army in both sizes although it would be nice to get the 15's on the table again
Cheers

I tend to agree with Gerry's point, I've got 15mm Greek/Macedonians or Undead

I am looking at buying 15mm Normans with intention of fielding them as human or empire types --- problem is can't seem to find artillery and missile types. Any help appreciated --- looking at maybe 4 or 5 pieces of artillery and enough to field 30 or 40 missile troops (maybe more if price ok).
Would prefer 15mm as loads of room to maneuver on much smaller table!! 28's do look better though
Mark

Quote Nemisis "looking at maybe 4 or 5 pieces of artillery and enough to field 30 or 40 missile troops (maybe more if price ok)."
Could I suggest the 100 Years war large 10mm from Kallistra. Kieran and I are planning to get stuff, and I fancy getting the multi-barrelled guns to use as organ guns for the Dwarves. You get 4 guns and 12 crew and bases for £6 (I only want 2). They have cannons here that would be suitable. Or trebuchet in the Fantasy. Let me know on Sun and I will put in an order with ours - cuts back on P&P.
As to the scale I could field any of Dwarves, Humans, Orcs/goblins, Undead or Dark Eleves in 28mm. Possibly Orcs, Dwarves, or Humans in 15mm. Since I am not sure which army I want to play I cannot say for definate. 28mm gives me more selection. 15mm is easier to use.
Zellak - do you not still have a 15mm Skaven army we used with the Celtic Hero?

I have some 15mm ratmen/goblins/orcs/lizardmen armies for DBF. No more than 25 stands of each. (but would prefer to use 28mm)

Both true, but could you please be clear about your preference for this tournie ?
