Soz Z ... Based on the launch of AA's new collections, I don't know if I'll even get a chance to get my hols in the middle of June, which is when I planned to get on with the Tau again. My boss has asked (guilt tripped!) me to suspend my hols till all the development/web/brochure work is done, so it's going to be another long sleep! But, never fear, I do get there in the end! Just need to see the little white spec at the end of the tunnel to believe it myself sad ... I need a lotto win!!! yahoo ... Walts

Four weeks.....still waiting. closedeyes

Not even as much as the stats for Fire Warriors (the suspected type 1 Infantry) dry

Whats the point in starting a thread, claiming to have started playtesting....and to have no stats to show !

No room for play-testing, so Tau Dominion's on the back burner till August, if I'm lucky. Life always seems to get in the way!

Painting models is a nice break from painting the walls in the house! .... Luv it! biggrin ... Walts ("I'll eventually get there in the end'ish!")

You could post some stats ....like fire warriors and hammerheads....so that others could playtest even if you dont have time.

How can people playtest your ideas without stats ?

So what do we know about the Tau from the codex ?

They are nocturnal herbivores. So good at seeing in the dark.

They prefer ranged combat to close combat.

They are divided into five castes.

Ethereal : Leaders / Air : Pilots / Earth ; worker / Water ; diplomats , merchants, administrators / Fire ; warriors.

Art of war. the Mont'ka , well planned surgical strikes....called off if the enemy evades or is resilient

Kauyon ; patient hunter, lure and ambush tactics.


"The fire caste are entirely committed to mobile warfare in which targets are identified, tracked and killed in an efficient and cautious manner."

"The Tau regard close combat as primitive and always plan their attacks around the application of firepower."

"A Tau army will gladly retreat from a strong enemy attack to preserve Tau lives, while it awaits its opportunity to strike back effectively."

"...the Tau empire cannot draw on limitless manpower, so the strategy of attrition is unknown to them."

So how to organise it ?

A vanilla list to start with, giving access to all units. And then two factions for the Kauyon and Mont'ka ?

How to classify the troops ?

Type 1 infantry (rank and file) Fire Warriors / Gun Drones / Kroot.

Type 2 infantry ( Elites) Pathfinders / Stealth Suits

Type 3 infantry (3 man heavy infantry) Crisis Battlesuits / Broadside Battlesuits

Type 1 AFV : Pirhana

Type 2 AFV : Devilfish APC / Hammerhead Gunship / Skyray Air defence gunship

Type 3 AFV : ?????

I'd be tempted to call the hammerhead a type 3 because ots the only main battle tank happy

Because of its size, i can see your point....but Walts has scratchbuilt something for a heavy walker.

And it might be a bit limiting to have an MBT on a 130mm base ????? (preaching to the converted here ??? tongue )

The fire warrior leader would come with a "markerlight". +25 AP
In effect firing a missile, same stats as steel trooper missile launcher.

Note. there is no combat knife listed, in order to prevent Tau engaging in close combat.

Also no Mechanic specialist.
